Gil Amancio (UFMG/Brazil)

Gil Amancio holds a doctorate through Notable Knowledge in Knowledge, Education and Social Inclusion from UFMG – Federal University of Minas Gerais, and is a music professor at UFMG’s School of Theatre. “Back and forth, forth and back”, his work in the Black Atlantic, as an artist and educator, has earned him recognition from national and international critics and numerous awards. Since 1976, when he entered the artistic and cultural scene of Belo Horizonte, he has inhabited the crossroads. His creations are shaped by the arts of sound, word, movement and image. As an artist, he founded Cia SeráQue?, the Sociedade Lira Eletrônica Black Maria, the Coletivo Black Horizonte and the film collective Coisa de Preto.

He currently inhabits the “Ciberterreiro” — a space for thinking/acting, for wandering, for hacking and for creation, grounded in counter-colonization and the cosmopoliperception of Afro-diasporic peoples.
